Mercy Killing

will they see?

a constant traveller unseen

pictures in a box from a time long past

a happy death perhaps but incomplete

a spectre lurking in the shadows, haunting

memories untold

voices that echo,  his image etched into the stone face of remembrance

“do you remember that time?” they say

I was there

denial

skulking just beneath every desire

lashing, stomping, loathing

his life emboldened by fear

with his shell imperfect

cracks covered in sex

truth revealed

unravelled lies

a self untethered from expectation

allowing breath

his death a mercy

my birth undeniable

ashes to ashes

let us not fall again

I rise
